Scouts doing JOTA (JOTI - Jamboree On The Internet) Internet
style. On Sunday morning, we started out at our Assistant Scout Leaders
house, and chatted to other Scouts on IRC (Internet Relay Chat). To start
off with, there were 40 different groups of scouts in the conference. They
came from all over the world, including Canada, UK, Netherlands, and many
other places. About 15 minutes into chatting, unfortunately the link between
USA and Australia dropped out, and we were left talking to other Scouts
around Australia. Most of the Scouts around Australia were from Sydney
and Newcastle, but it was still a fantastic experience. Hi, to all those
Scouts we chatted to, from McKScouts! JOTI definately seems to be
the way of the future. Above pictured from the left Cori, Jake and Daniel.
After JOTI, we
travelled to 1st Bentleigh Scout Group, where they were running the more
traditional JOTA. Reception was not too good, because of the bad wheather,
but we did manage to contact some Scouts in Sydney, and chat to them for
a while. 1st Bentleigh offered many other interesting electrictical things
to do, and we even did morse code there. Josh is pictured on the right,
chatting to one of the Scouts in Sydney. Thanks to 1st Bentleigh for a
fantastic time. Next year we should be back doing JOTA & JOTI, and
hopefully we will have more than one terminal connected to the internet,
so look out for us at JOTI.
